The 2nd edition of Paris + by Art Basel concluded successfully on Sunday, Oct 22nd. Showcasing 154 galleries from around the world, the fair took place at the Grand Palais Ephemere. The fair attracted an attendance of over 38,000 visitors throughout its VIP and public days.
With their professors, our Bachelor in Arts Management students visited their first ever art fair and met with gallerists, artists and art collectors as well as other professionals from the art market.
These discussions led to a deep understanding of the structure of the global art market as well as understanding the relevance of Paris becoming the epicenter for modern and contemporary art post-Brexit. Some of the findings by the students include: a Robert Rauschenberg sold for $2 million reported by Thaddaeus Ropac, while David Zwirner sold more than 20 million euros’ worth of works by artists including Kerry James Marshall, Marlene Dumas, Alice Neel and Noah Davis.
The works displayed by galleries included works by 20th-century masters such as Alexander Calder, Ed Clark, Niki de Saint Phalle, Leonor Fini, Jean Hélion, Aristide Maillol, Robert Rauschenberg, and Anna Zemánková; blue-chip contemporary artists such as Mark Bradford, Tracey Emin, Camille Henrot, Loie Hollowell, Lee Ufan, Wolfgang Tillmans, Yan Pei-Ming, and Flora Yukhnovich; mid-career practitioners such as Katinka Bock, Mohamed Bourouissa, Reggie Burrows Hodges, Sayre Gomez, Rachel Jones, Suki Seokyeong Kang, Jean-Luc Moulène, and Laure Prouvost; and emerging voices such as Jenna Bliss, Gaëlle Choisne, Elladj Lincy Deloumeaux, Karol Palczak, Nora Turato, Sophie Varin, Xie Lei, and Trevor Yeung.
