Exploring the Cultural Heritage of the French Language

Our MA in Managing Art & Cultural Heritage in Global Markets (MAGMa) students had an incredible visit to the Cité internationale de la langue française.

Open to the world and anchored in its territory, the Cité internationale de la langue française, is a cultural treasure entirely dedicated to the French language. It links the past, present and future of the French language and the French-speaking world, around three pillars: culture & creation, education & training, research & innovation.

A multidisciplinary space accessible to the greatest number of people, it offers varied activities: tours, temporary exhibitions, shows, residency workshops for artists, researchers and entrepreneurs, educational activities, learning and training in the French language...

The Cité's ambition is to reveal the French language as a source of creativity and exchange, of intellectual and aesthetic development, of pleasure and as a lever for social, economic and civic integration.

Guided by professor Adriana Turpin and Carolina Ariza, Head of the International Department, they explored the stunning permanent tour located on the second floor of the Logis Royal.

The tour features fifteen rooms divided into three sections, plus an introductory room on the château and its territory. From the moment they ascended the King's Staircase, the students were immersed in the château's sumptuous past, highlighted by the intricate Renaissance decorations adorned with royal emblems. This is the first-ever permanent exhibition dedicated entirely to the French language, curated under the expert guidance of Xavier North, Barbara Cassin, Zeev Gourarier, and Hassane Kassi Kouyaté.

The tour is supported by around sixty innovative mediation devices and showcases precious objects, documents, and works on loan from approximately twenty national and international partner institutions, including the Académie française, Musée du Louvre, and Musée de la Civilisation du Québec, among others.
