Welcoming our new cohort of the MAGMA Program: Young professionals shaping the future of art & cultural heritage in global markets

The new cohort of our International Masters in Managing Art & Cultural Heritage in Global Markets (MAGMa) was welcomed to IESA in Paris for the spring semester! The orientation days on February 3rd and 4th were packed with engaging sessions, insightful discussions, and exciting opportunities to connect, setting the tone for an enriching academic journey ahead.

 

A Unique and Holistic Approach to Art & Heritage

The MAGMa program is designed to empower future art and cultural heritage professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of a rapidly evolving global field.By connecting the realms of art collecting and heritage preservation, and blending contemporary artistic practices with the stewardship of historical masterpieces, MAGMa offers a unique and holistic perspective. 

 

The orientation kicked off on February 3rd with a warm welcome from IESA’s leadership, including Marie-Sandrine Cadudal (Director), Anissa Abdellatif (Deputy Director), and Carolina Ariza (Head of the International Department). After a meeting with the admin, the afternoon session featured a detailed presentation of the MAGMa program by Adriana Turpin and the program’s faculty, including Christel de Noblet, Juliette Cattell, and Bénédicte de Chalain.The day concluded with a roundtable discussion on The Institutions and Their Roles in French Cultural Heritage Today, featuring: Clothilde Roy, Chef du pôle de la coordination scientifique pour le Centre des monuments nationaux (introduced by David Brouzet), Virginie Desrante, Curator at the Musée du Grand Siècle and David Mandrella, Art historian and specialist in Northern European painting.

 

The evening wrapped up with a lively cocktail reception in the IESA lobby, offering students and faculty the chance to mingle and connect.

 An Immersive Visit to the Fondation Cartier

February 4th was dedicated exclusively to MAGMa students, who enjoyed a guided visit to the Fondation Cartier for the Olga de Amaral exhibition, led by Professor Andres Avila. This immersive experience provided a firsthand look at the intersection of contemporary art and cultural heritage, a theme central to the MAGMa program.

About the MAGMa Program

The MAGMa program offers an integrated approach to understanding the social, economic, managerial, legal, and cultural issues shaping the art and cultural heritage sectors. It prepares students for diverse careers, including roles as:

 

●Managers, educators, curators, or marketing consultants in museums, historic sites, or private foundations

●Executives in cultural tourism or heritage affairs within NGOs or governmental organizations

●Project officers for international organizations like UNESCO

●Exhibition developers or managers in auction houses, museum services, or art consultancies

 
Looking Ahead to an Inspiring Semester

Delivered by a prestigious consortium of institutions, MAGMa provides students with the opportunity to study across multiple European cities, including Paris (IESA arts&culture), Lisbon (University of Lisbon and University Institute of Lisbon), Glasgow (University of Glasgow), and Rotterdam (Erasmus University).
